A Project of Responsibility
On October 11, within the framework of the 2nd Festival “The Park and the City” of the Lavrio Technological and Cultural Park of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the completion of the decontamination and restoration project of the historic “Konofagos” building was officially presented.
Polyeco had the honor of undertaking this particularly demanding project, involving the decontamination of a building that had been identified as the most arsenic-contaminated structure in Europe, as a result of decades of heavy metal accumulation from the area’s metallurgical activity. At the same time, the severe structural inadequacy of the building posed a real threat to the city of Lavrio.
In close cooperation with the National Technical University of Athens and Kallitechnos O.T.M. S.A., we implemented specialized decontamination techniques under strictly controlled conditions, safely removing large quantities of highly hazardous pollutants and contributing decisively to the full structural and aesthetic restoration of this historic monument.
For Polyeco, this project represents a commitment to society and the environment, as well as another significant step in the development of Greek expertise in the delivery of high-risk projects of major historical importance.
